A State of Being

Over the past years working across the creative industry we’ve come to notice a powerful shift in the quality of creative work depending on whether one is operating from a state of doing versus a state of being.

‘Doing’ is reactive, it’s thinking in the moment, ticking boxes, responding to what’s in front of us, doing only what is expected.

‘Being’ on the other hand, is the essence of intuition. Intuition shaped by the accumulation of our experiences, reflections and insights, which guide our expression in a more authentic way.

And this authenticity is what connects. It’s what resonates. It’s what stops us in our tracks to think, contemplate, pause and reflect. It’s also, ironically, what sells. When we create from a place of being, we’re not doing so from the perspective of what will sell, connect or perform, we’re simply expressing truth. There’s a subtle but powerful difference, but that difference is where the magic of unique creativity often lives. It’s what separates AI from man.

Being a designer / an artist isn’t just about what you do. It’s something you are. It’s in the way you observe the world, the meaning we find in moments of stillness, the connections we instinctively draw between ideas. It’s in the quiet spirals that lead to something visual.

Of course, creativity still requires structure. There’s a process. There are goals and deliverables. But when we allow space for being, when we trust our intuition and align that with our client’s mission, purpose, and values, that’s when the work flows, and becomes more than just design.
